Below is a post going over some of the very basic thoughts when the Internet or your PC is slow:

What To Do When You Get Slow Internet Speed

When you are browsing the Internet, you need to do so in a comfortable manner, at a speed that justifies you having an Internet connection on your computer. This is, however, not always the case. There are times when you get a slow Internet speed on your computer and a number of factors may be the cause.

ISP Speed Issue?

The first thing you need to ensure is that you have a modem that can provide you with a fast Internet speed. If you are using a dial-up modem, then your Internet speed will be slow most of the time. You need to upgrade from this outdated method to a faster connection to browse at faster speeds.

Computer Problems?

The other reason why your Internet may be slow is the fact that the computer is slow itself. When you buy a new computer, it will initially perform at great speeds, but over time, you will notice a distinct slowing in the processing speeds of the computer. This may be brought about by the clogging up of your computer by various programs that you do not need. You need to clear up these programs and give your computer the performance it was designed for.

Unneeded Programs Running?

There could also be programs that are running background processes that you do not need all the time. You can disable these processes when you do not need them. Other factors may include the fact that your computer is running out of Random Access Memory, (RAM). When you are using your computer, data is uploaded from the hard disk to the RAM for faster processing. This happens even when you are browsing the Internet, Add more RAM to your computer so that you can browse faster.

Malicious Infections?

Viruses and malware can also be the reason why your Internet is slow. These are programs that are designed to steal information from your computer whenever you are online. These programs run in the background and you will not notice their activity. They however, will affect the rate at which data is transfered to your computer during your browsing sessions and effectively slow your Internet connection. Ensure that such programs are removed from your computer through the use of a good anti-virus program.

Internet Settings?

There are several other settings that may be causing slow Internet speed on your computer. The temporary cache where Internet files are downloaded, may be getting filled up. It is therefore prudent that you clear your cache regularly after each browsing session.

When working on your computer, don’t forget to do a backup

Many times we forget one of the most important steps when it comes to PC repair.. backing up our important data. Any type of repair or scan can cause a glitch in our computer and might cause it to lock up or even wipe out the hard drive. Don’t take a chance. When you are trying “fixes” for a slow or poorly operating computer you could be risking a much bigger problem – loosing your recorded info.

Automatic Backup Setup

Windows provides an easy way for you to do the backup. Just go to Backup Status and Configuration. You can find this from the Programs menu and go to Accessories and then to System Tools. There you can do a one time back and / or set up automatic backups that will be done periodically.

As you can see in the picture above of the Backup Status and Configuration you can set the back up an automatic back up that will be run when you want it to such as at night when you are not using your PC. There is also a way to set up what you want to be backed up such as all your music, documents, etc. without saving all the other information on your computer.

You can also do a one time complete PC backup that will record everything. This is the location that you would do a restoring of old files if you did have your computer crash at some point in the Restore Files area.

Remember, when my computer is slow and you are having any work done on it, backup your important files first.
